The Cedar County Assessor’s Office is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and customer-service–focused individual to join our team as a Data Clerk. This position is responsible for performing a variety of clerical and data-entry tasks to support the assessment and maintenance of accurate property records. The role offers part-time hours initially, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time position based on performance and departmental needs.
Key Responsibilities
● Perform data entry for personal property records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with state and county assessment procedures.
● Review, process, and enter real estate deed transactions into the assessment system.
● Assist with parcel updates, ownership changes, and address maintenance.
● Provide courteous and professional customer service to the public, answering questions in person, by phone, and via email regarding property assessments, exemptions, and filing requirements.
● Maintain and organize office files, correspondence, and other assessment-related documents.
● Collaborate with other Assessor’s Office staff to ensure consistent data accuracy and timely completion of assessment cycles.
● Perform additional clerical and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
● High school diploma or equivalent required.
● Prior experience in an office, government, or clerical setting preferred.
● Experience with data entry, records management, or customer service strongly desired.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
● Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy in repetitive tasks.
● Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), and database systems.
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Ability to learn and interpret property assessment procedures and related terminology.
● Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
● Professional, courteous demeanor when interacting with the public and coworkers
Work Schedule & Compensation
● Part-Time: Approximately 21 hours per week.
● Potential for Full-Time: Based on performance and departmental needs.
